Soundcheck: Open Mic Night for Teens
High school students in the Chatham area have really turned out for the Soundcheck events that began in January 2006. About 60-80 students have gathered at each Soundcheck, not only to have fun, but to experience some quality entertainment provided by high school students in the area. Our December 2006 event brought over 115 students together. What Its All About Area teenagers come together to Soundcheck to sing, play instruments, recite poetry, display visual art, present readers' theatre, comedy routines, monologues and more. We provide a sound system, microphone, space for artwork, wires for guitar hookups and keyboard. If you sing, act, play an instrument, have a garage band, want to show off your artwork, join us for a fun night with your friends! Mission Statement Soundcheck is a grassroots effort to use the arts to strengthen community bonds and instill leadership skills in the youth of Chatham and Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Targeting high school aged students in grades 9-12, from private to public to home-school sectors, Soundcheck provides a community venue in which teen artists may showcase their talents in the musical, literary, theatrical and visual arts. Soundcheck also initiates local opportunities for quality extracurricular instruction and practice in the arts by overseeing a community drama club and visual arts workshops in addition to monthly performance events. Want to Get Involved? Country teenagers, parents, arts enthusiasts, volunteers, anyone who wants to be involved in an exciting community arts program is welcome to work with us.
